Computer Skills Needed For Distance Learning
Obviously computer skills are needed for a successful distance learning experience, however most programs require only basic computer skills. So, if your computer skills are the greatest this should not prevent you from taking a class on-line. The good news is a natural by product of an on-line class is improved computer skills.
The most obvious skill would be keyboarding. Taking an on-line class is going to involve lots of typing.
Being able to effectively use a word processor like MS Word is also important. Word processing is probably one of the most basic and important applications you can use.
A familiarity with the internet and a web browser are needed. You will also need to be able to use the internet for research and properly cite information. Being able to send an email and attach files is also important. Sending emails are pretty simple to learn. Attaching files may be a little tricky but is not that hard to master. You will also need to be able to download programs and files from the internet. Other internet skills include being able to use streaming media, chat rooms, and forums.
Conclusion
Distance learning can be a viable option for pursuing a college degree. Distance learning is a growing field and the internet has greatly improved distance learning programs. There are many good programs out there but be aware that diploma mills do exists. Critical research is very important when selecting a program.
